MEET TREGO

Meet Andrew Trego, aka DJ Trego! Trego is from Maryland, and attended school in Virginia. He moved out to California for 5 years, then made his way to Arizona! Trego grew up singing and dancing, and worked as a professional actor for several years before becoming a DJ. In 2014, Trego was recruited by a big DJ company that took raw talent and turned them into professional private DJs and MCs. Trego picked up on these things very fast due to his background in music, and the rest was history.

Trego met his now wife, Jessi, when working as a character at Disneyland. Talk about an adorable love story! They worked side-by-side before they got married, and they now have a one year old daughter named Parker!

MUSIC

Trego was raised around all sorts of music: funk, disco, soul, motown, and classic rock. His first musical memories were all the late 90’s guilty pleasures: Britney Spears, Nsync, the Spice Girls, and Backstreet Boys. In high school, Trego loved early 2000’s music, and he loved going to college when mainstream EDM was everything! Trego doesn’t leave any style out- he also is a big country music guy.

DJ ADVICE

Trego has been in the music industry for a long time now, so he has some good advice for aspiring DJs. First off, when you practice, don’t just mix. It’s crucial that you record, listen and play for people you trust. The listening process is tedious, but it is the quickest way you’ll improve.

Listen to your music not just through your headphones, but how it comes out of your speakers. Music sounds different in headphones, so you want to make sure what you’re mixing sounds good to your audience.

Ask yourself: Why do you want to DJ? Do you want to throw parties, share new music, do you want people to vibe? You need to know what you want to specialize in before you start. Figure out where you want to work. If you want to work where there isn’t too much pressure to make people dance, you are better off at a bar or a club. When working at private events, there’s more pressure to get people to dance right then and there. This can be nerve-wracking at first, but seeing people get down to your music is a great reward.

Trego loves his job. Some of his favorite memories are the first time he saw a couple crowd surfing, being a DJ at Disneyland, and doing a gig at Waste Management last year! He loves being the fun DJ, but he wants all his couples to succeed in married life too. Go check out Trego’s Unsolicited Wedding Advice series on his Instagram!
